What is a home inspection?

A home inspection is a careful visual exam of a home's physical structure and systems. It covers everything from the roof to the foundation. Conducted by a trained professional, a home inspection provides an objective assessment of the physical condition of your house - allowing you to make an informed buying decision.

Why do I need a home inspection?

Your house may be the largest investment that you will ever make. It is also where you spend about half of your waking hours. Therefore, you should learn as much as possible about the condition of your home before you buy, to avoid headaches later. In addition, a Champion home inspection includes unlimited phone consultation - home upkeep advice that can help you maintain your home as long as you own it.

Do I need an inspection, even if I am buying a newly-built home?

Yes. Any home you buy, even if it is brand new, is a big investment. You will want to make sure that the house is sound and in good working order before you buy it. An experienced Champion home inspector can spot problems that might otherwise go unnoticed. These problems can be resolved in an early stage - even during construction - potentially saving thousands of dollars in repair down the line.

What will I actually get from my home inspection?

A Champion home inspection provides piece of mind, plus a complete understanding of the condition of your home. Your inspection includes:

  • A full report of our inspection - three copies complete and given to you on the spot.
  • A clear explanation of how your home works - and how to maintain it to avoid future problems.
  • Unlimited phone consultation, support, and home upkeep advice as long as you own your home.
  • Comprehensive 300-page manual on house components and maintenance.
  • Full info on all the good qualities of your house, not just the problems - so that you can make a balanced purchase decision.
  • Helpful energy conservation hints to lower fuel costs.
  • Smart tips for an environmentally safe household.

How long will the inspection take?

The time required depends on the size and condition of your home. A larger home takes longer to inspect than a smaller home. And if the home has many problems, it will take longer for the inspector to describe the problems and review repair options. With that in mind, it generally takes between 2 and 3 hours to inspect an average single-family home.

Do I have to be there for the inspection?

Although you don't have to be present while the inspection is conducted, Champion Home Inspections strongly recommends that you try to be there. Being there has many benefits. You can ask relevant questions. You can see what the inspector sees. The inspector can point out any problems. The end result is that you will have a better understanding of the inspection report.

How much does an inspection cost?

Why can't I do the inspection myself?

Most people do not have the knowledge, training, and experience of a professional home inspector. In contrast, the inspector from Champion Home Inspections will have rigorous technical training and will have inspected hundreds of homes in his or her career. The Champion home inspector will provide an objective, expert opinion about the condition of your home.

What if the inspection reveals problems?

Sadly, every house has problems - some small and some large. If there are big problems, you may want to approach the seller to have the problems corrected. Or you may want to renegotiate the sale price, to reflect what you have learned from the inspection. In either case, you will be better positioned to make an informed purchase decision.
